Lot # 1302
Tucson, AZ. The Arizona National Bank. Treasury Department, Office of Comptroller of the Currency Charter Certificate.
Lot Information
Final Bid $15,525.00
Description: Established in 1863 by the National Currency Act, the Office of Comptroller regulates and supervises all national banks and the federal branches and agencies of foreign banks in the United States. In order to open a national bank, a group of no less than five individuals must apply to organize a national banking association. When all the necessary forums are filed to the Office of Comptroller, they issue this official charter certificate, where the bank name, bank charter number, and location are all included in the document and an official seal is placed on the certificate.
This charter certificate was issued for the Arizona National Bank of Tucson, in the City of Tucson, in the county of Pima, and the Territory of Arizona. Chartered on the 10th of October 1890, the bank lasted nearly 28 years, liquidated in 1928 and issued a total of $785,350 between Territorial and State issues. This is just the second Territory of Arizona charter this cataloger has ever seen. The historical significance this item beholds is truly remarkable. Most certainly a piece many Arizona national bank note collectors would dream of owning. While such unique items are hard to value, we would imagine this charter certificate will bring somewhere in the range of our estimate. Est. $12,500 - $17,500
